Dear Parents and Students

Now that the winter cold and holidays have hit at the same time, it’s a good time to cuddle up warmly and read the latest newsflash.  (It is longer than normal, lots to share –so enjoy!)

UPDATE: My apologies, due to circumstances this is coming out a little later than planned.

Grading

Congratulations to everyone that graded to their new belts at the end of June. It is going to be good to see everyone sporting their new belts this term.

The photos should be available in a week or so – will let everyone know.

Struggling to tie your belt? Here is an info-graphic on how to do it.

For those that could not attend the last grading, a supplemental date will be made available soon

Competitions

The Cape Classic (Provincial Tournament) was a GREAT success and CJA did particularly well and I am very proud of each and every one that entered and gave of their best.

The Nationals (DESTINY) takes place at the end of August and I am looking forward to as many students taking part as possible. Remember if you got GOLD at the Cape Classic, you will then be eligible for your Western Province Colours for Jiu-Jitsu. Also qualifying in the top 4 allows you to be eligible to be selected for National Colours and to tour to the US next year. So, exciting things to look forward to!

Speaking of the USA – we had 5 CJA students representing South Africa.

Michael Blok                         4th and SILVER

Joshua Mathieson               Bronze Medal

Tristan Nel                             4th

Riley Laden                          Bronze

Dylan Pienaar                      Silver

Cape Town Winter Open (9th August) – a more advanced competition fighting in a Gi (Full jacket and pants uniform) – if you would like to enter please let Alex know soonest

CAMP

For all students in Grade 1 and higher our Annual Camp is sure to be a big hit again. 31 Oct to 2 Nov. Diarise now – more information to come soon.

PS: This is a family event and all are welcome to attend.

TIME OF GIVING

As we do twice a year we are sending out an appeal to everyone for help with a worthwhile cause. This time we are supporting a school in Atlantis that has opened a NEW LIBRARY and they are desperately looking for books of ANY kind. Please send your old books (clothing, toys etc also welcome) to class so we can help the children and adults that need that little bit that we don’t use anymore.

SUPPORTERS T-SHIRTS

Want to support your children in Jiu-Jitsu at a competition? We have supporters T-Shirts for you. Cost R130 each (only adult sizes available)

OK that’s all for now folks, take care and see you all soon

URGENT NOTICE – Durbanville Primary School
