Quarter Three has kicked off with a bang after my very successful trip to the USA
But let’s start with first things first:
GRADING PHOTOS
Apologies for the delay, between technical issues with the photographer and me being away there was a bit of a hiccup – but they have now been loaded.

USA TRIP
This was an absolutely amazing experience both on a personal and professional level. Personally I had never been to the States, so that was very exciting. New York was awesome, so great to be able to see all the landmarks you see in movies and read about in books. J
Orlando and Universal Studios, well that is just the way you imagine it – bigger, better and WOW!!!
From a competition point of view, I learnt a huge amount about jiu-jitsu standards and what is happening over there. I believe that the standard of our juniors is superior while adults need a bit of work.
Overall the results were astounding. We went over with a Sports Martial Arts Team with over 85 competitors (in all disciplines, from jiu-jitsu, points fighting, forms, breaking, high kicking etc.) – We came back with over 150 trophies and medals! Not too shabby.
So having said all that – how do you get to qualify to go? That’s where Destiny comes into the picture.
DESTINY
DESTINY is the premiere Martials Arts Tournament in South Africa and is a FULL MASA & SASCOC SANCTIONED EVENT. The NMA/ISKA is the only recognised organisation in South Africa that may award colours for Sport Martial Art divisions, Sport Grappling (jiu-jitsu) and Sport MMA divisions.
All those that win their Divisions at Destiny automatically qualify to be able to tour to the USA and if you do go, get National Colours for your sport.
DESTINY this year is on 21 and 22 September at the Bellville Velodrome.
Initial entries close by 31 August – so please let’s get as many people to enter and make a mark on the competition

HELP NEEDED
As in every large endeavour we are in need of parents to help with Table Officiating.
You will be asked to spend a weekend twice a year (Destiny and Cape Classic) to help with running the Tables for the Jiu-Jitsu. The more parents we have the less the load and then maybe it would only be one weekend or part of a weekend
Please let me know if you are prepared to help out with this.
(Last point on going qualifying for the States, bear in mind, we get no funding from the government at all and so you need to be able to fund / sponsor this trip. It is not a cheap trip! L)
CAMP
Please make sure that you have diarized this event – the last weekend in October. (25th – 27th)
Only for Grade 1 and up and remember parents are more than welcome to come along and join for the weekend. For parents I supply the basics, food and shelter – it’s up to you how much you want to be involved or go off and do your own thing in the surrounding area. For the kids ….. fun, jiu-jitsu bonfire, swimming etc
